Getting The Best Photos

I recently bought a new printer to try to get better pictures when I print them from my digital camera. However, they just don’t look as crisp and clear as the photos you get from photo processing places. I am wondering if I need to buy digital camera that has a higher resolution, or if it is the printer or the paper or something else that is keeping them from turning out as well as they might. Does anyone have advice for how to get the best photos out of digital cameras? I use the paper made specifically for my printer, and a printer that is made for printing photos.
