How training a dog, helps preventing shelter overpopulation.

By admin | April 5, 2008

Adopting a puppy from a shelter is a very noble thing to do.  Many dog owners these days enjoy healthy and loving relationships with their adopted dogs.  There are all kinds of dogs in shelters, from pure breed to mixed breeds, from small dogs to large dogs, from young puppies to older dogs.  Chances are that if you visit a shelter you will be able to find the right dog for you and your family.  One question that many potential dog owners have is, do all shelter dogs have behavioral problems.  Reality is that the majority of the dogs that end up in shelters end up there because of their owners inability to take care of them and because the owners did not realize the big responsibility that is to take care of a dog.  Many dog owners when their dogs get difficult to manage just give their dogs away, without even trying to take the pet for dog obedience training.  Many of the dogs in shelters have not been given a fair trial, and often all they need is a loving home, where they learn who is the alpha.  Once they know that, they will be loyal, happy, loving pets.
