Why do we get constipated

By admin | July 3, 2009

There are a number of reasons why people may suffer from constipation. These are generally related to not drinking enough liquids, eating enough fibre, a lack of exercise, and sometimes even just stress.

Other causes and conditions that can contribute to being constipated include – a lazy colon that does not contract properly, this causes waste materials to pass through the colon slowly, food allergies, or bowel obstructions that inhibit the movement of waste materials. Many prescription drugs and some neurological disorders can contribute to the slowing down the movement of waste materials through the colon. Constipation can also be brought on by an abuse of laxatives that can, over time, damage nerve cells in the colon and interfere with its ability to contract properly.
