The heart pumps the blood through our blood vessels causing them to impinge on the walls of the vessels giving rise to what is called blood pressure. Observation of the mercury rising and falling on the column, one can decipher the systolic and diastolic pressure. A blood pressure reading of more than 140/90 almost certainly degrades the performance of your heart and kidneys. A high blood pressure reading could lead to formation of kidney stones due to excess deposition of calcium.
