Salt And High Blood Pressure

By admin | February 21, 2008

It been known for a long time now that there is a link between salt and high blood pressure but just how much does salt affect your blood pressure and how much of a reduction in salt do you need to make an appreciable difference?

Well, according to a recent study even a modest reduction in your salt intake can produce a marked decrease in your blood pressure. For example, in the case of individuals with an average daily salt consumption, reducing their intake by about one third resulted in a drop of about 12 mm Hg in systolic pressure and 6 mm Hg in diastolic pressure. This is a substantial reduction and strongly supports the case for reducing salt intake to lower blood pressure.
