6 Things You Should Know About Heartburn and Frequent Heartburn

The following article contains, what I think at least, useful tips about heartburn and frequent heartburn.

Let’s face it, reading 6 tips isn’t going to change your life, but at least it will give you an idea about what you can find out about Heartburn.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed collating them. You can never know enough about Heartburn, can you?

Tip #1

When the muscle that is supposed to prevent stomach acid from escaping up into the esophagus gets to weak to do its job and the acid keeps on gushing back to the esophagus, that is called acid reflux. It is a lot like heart burn but a lot more uncomfortable as generally there is much more acids and pepsins pushing back to the esophagus.

Tip #2

Protonix is a proton pump inhibitor, meaning that its way of trying to overcome acid reflux disease is to not allow the stomach to create acid in the first place.  Whereas antacids enter the stomach and try to neutralize the acid that is there and histamine antagonists due almost the same thing, Protonix and other proton pump inhibitors try to head the problem off at the pass.  This is worth trying for those who get a more temporary solution from antacids, or actually get very little relief from the other options available to those suffering from GERD.

Tip #3

People can change their diets to actually eliminate or reduce the effects of Acid Reflux. A proper routine can be made to reduce the problem which generally causes due to the irregular habits of eating or eating more junk food and also from excessive drinking. These bad habits cause a rise in the stomach acids, which in turn adds more pressure on the muscle that is trying to stop the stomach acid from escaping.

Tip #4

Not every person who suffers from acid reflux has a hiatal hernia, but most who have a hiatal hernia do suffer from acid reflux.  The effect of a hiatal hernia on acid reflux is not known for sure, but it is generally assumed that hiatal hernias do have something to do with gastroesophageal reflux disease.  It is important to understand how the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, relates to the condition called acid reflux because a hiatal hernia does affect the LES, which in turn causes acid reflux.

Tip #5

Histamine antagonists block the cell walls inside the stomach from producing acid with acid producing cells.  Essentially the histamine antagonists aren’t moving into the stomach and neutralizing acid that is already in place, it is instead stopping the acid at the production point by not allowing it to be produced in the first place.

Tip #6

Many people generally assume that the best way to treat acid reflux is with antacids because they are specially designed to neutralize acids in the stomach.  While this is true and antacids are very effective against acid reflux, the problem is the very short amount of time that antacids actually neutralize the acid in the stomach.  There are other prescription drugs or over the counter drugs that help fight of the effects of acid reflux, one being histamine antagonists. These histamine antagonists work a little differently than antacids by helping fight the actual chemical that creates acid in the stomach.

Well…that’s enough tips for now. I’m sure 6 is enough to be getting along with!

I hope that you found these Heartburn and Frequent Heartburn resources useful, they certainly helped me!
