The Iowa geyser

By admin | March 26, 2008

In the 1890s a small town wanted a well for fresh water. They hired a professional and he gave them more than they bargained for. When he broke through to the water it created a geyser rising eight feet into the air. The well driller attempted to stop the water but was unable to do so and he snuck out town. The sight did increase eastern Iowa tourism for the eight months before the well was finally capped. Once the water flow was stopped a rock was placed over the spring and a plaque was placed on the rock telling about the event.
