History of pastel art

By admin | March 7, 2008

Pastels can be used for making quick, inspired sketches as well as large, elaborate paintings. Pastels also contain a binder, and they range from hard to soft, depending on the type and the amount of binder used. Pastel paintings should be reframed periodically to clean the glazing, check for damage of mold, or deterioration of the matting or framing materials in contact with the painting. Pastel art is an easy medium for beginning artists who want to experiment with color, form, and composition. As a general rule (to which there are very few exceptions) some people don’t like working with pastel since they see it as a very messy medium and it is very difficult to keep the hands and clothes clean.
